In July 2022 at UFC 277, Alex Perez faced a tough defeat when Alexandre Pantoja forced him to submit with a neck crank just a little over a minute into the fight. The year before, at UFC 255, Perez had a shot at the UFC flyweight title but was submitted by Deiveson Figueiredo using a guillotine choke early in the first round.

Earlier in June 2020 during UFC 250, Perez showed his striking power by stopping Jussier Formiga with punches before the first round ended. A few months earlier, at a UFC Fight Night in January 2020, he showcased his submission skills by wrapping up a win with an arm triangle against Jordan Espinosa.

At UFC on ESPN in March 2019, Perez proved his endurance by winning a three-round fight with a unanimous decision over Mark De La Rosa. But not everything went his way; at the TUF 28 Finale in November 2018, Joseph Benavidez defeated him with strikes in the first round.
