Dominick Cruz faced Marlon Vera on August 13, 2022, at UFC on ESPN, where he was knocked out in the fourth round. Prior to that, on December 11, 2021, at UFC 269, he beat Pedro Munhoz in a fight that lasted three rounds and was decided by all judges in his favor.

At UFC 259 on March 6, 2021, Cruz had a close fight against Casey Kenney, which ended with the judges split on the winner, but Cruz came out on top. However, on May 9, 2020, at UFC 249, he fought for the UFC bantamweight title but was defeated by Henry Cejudo with strikes in the second round.
