Abraham Kawa: Jones Will Move to Heavyweight If Money Is Right

Abraham Kawa has created a realm of superstars under First Round Management. At Jorge Masvidal’s Mezcal release party prior to UFC 246, Kawa spoke with MMA Junkie about what’s next for his line up of star clients.

Kawa’s clients include Tyron Woodley, Jorge Masvidal, Yoel Romero, Jairzinho Rozenstruik and who many to consider the best of all time, Jon Jones. Jones is gearing up for his UFC 247 bout with Dominick Reyes.

Kawa was asked about this potentially being Jones’s last fight at light heavyweight.

“Jones is comfortable at light heavyweight. It makes no sense for him to move to heavyweight. If the money makes sense and if the challenge is right then he may move up”.

At the UFC 247 press conference, Jones seemed to get annoyed by Dominick Reyes. Throughout Jones’ career he has fought opponents who have been touted as more athletic then him. Reyes was a former D1 college football player. Kawa was asked if Jones is taking this fight personally, specifically around the fact that Reyes thinks he is a well-rounded athlete compared to Jones.

“What type of opponent has Jon not faced yet? Wasn’t Rampage and Rashad Evans a fantastic athlete? What gets Jon motivated is all these up and coming killers coming up trying to take what is his. He’s trying to prove that he is still the king of this jungle and nobody else is coming to mess with that”.

Dana White in recent interviews entertained the return of Brock Lesnar in 2020. Kawa believes that if Lesnar were to return a megafight between Jones and Lesnar would make a ton of money and is a fan favorite fight.
