Alex Pereira, having previously won UFC titles at light heavyweight and middleweight, is considering a move to heavyweight, evidenced by his recent weight check-in at nearly 244 pounds, potentially setting up a significant bout with interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall.
Is Alex Pereira gearing up for a move to heavyweight? Intriguing, right?
Having already snagged UFC titles at light heavyweight and middleweight, it wouldn’t shock anyone if “Poatan” decided to switch weight classes yet again. Imagine him becoming the first three-division champion! In a recent Instagram video, Pereira revealed a weight check-in at almost 244 pounds. Whoa.
Check out that clip below.
Previously, Pereira had to weigh in at 185 and 205 pounds for his championship bouts. His current walk-around weight is quite the eye-opener. But, since he’s not in fight camp (as far as we know), he’ll likely trim down closer to the 205-pound mark if a light heavyweight fight gets booked soon.
After his title fight loss to Magomed Ankalaev last March at UFC 313, there’s been talk of an immediate rematch. Why? Well, Pereira’s got three successful defenses and a massive fan base. However, nothing’s been announced for either fighter yet.
If Pereira does decide to move up to heavyweight, he’d likely get an immediate shot at interim heavyweight champ Tom Aspinall. With Jon Jones currently MIA, a Pereira vs. Aspinall showdown is the most electrifying heavyweight clash the UFC could offer. It might even bring some order to the division. Exciting times ahead!
