Amanda Nunes Ready to Fight for Real Belt if Kayla Harrison Stripped

Amanda Nunes remains determined to reclaim the undisputed UFC championship despite a delay caused by Kayla Harrison’s surgery, emphasizing she will only return for a real title fight.

Amanda Nunes isn’t letting a long wait derail her quest to reclaim the UFC championship.

Kayla Harrison, the current bantamweight titleholder, was set to face Nunes at UFC 324. Unfortunately, Harrison had to withdraw due to neck surgery, pushing the fight to 2026, according to UFC CEO Dana White.

This delay means more waiting for Nunes, who retired at her peak in 2023. The 37-year-old “Lioness” shared her thoughts with UFC Brasil about the situation.

“Kayla’s surgery news is disappointing,” Nunes admitted. “I was perfectly prepared—physically, mentally, spiritually. But, what can you do? It’s beyond our control, so we wait for the UFC’s next move.”

Nunes is open to other opponents but insists on fighting only for the undisputed title.

“People mention an interim belt, but that’s not for me,” she stated. “I fight for the real belt. If the UFC takes it from Harrison and offers it, I’ll fight. Interim belts? Not interested.”

She’s firm on her stance: no random opponents for now. It’s all about waiting for Kayla’s return or the UFC’s decision.

Despite the canceled bout, Nunes remains active, sharing training clips and even attending the Las Vegas event.

Her message is clear: she’s committed to her comeback, but only when the timing is perfect.

“I’m training hard, motivated, and strong,” Nunes declared. “At 37, the flame’s alive. The lioness is ready to reclaim her belt, whoever stands in her way.”
