Amir Albazi was not medically cleared to fight at UFC Vegas 108, leading to his replacement by Hyun Sung Park, and he expressed disappointment but respect for the decision, emphasizing it as a setback rather than an end to his career.
Amir Albazi won’t be stepping into the octagon this weekend. Initially set to face Tatsuro Taira in the main event of UFC Vegas 108, Albazi was replaced by Hyun Sung Park after news broke on Monday. The reasons for his withdrawal remained undisclosed until now.
On Tuesday, Albazi took to social media to explain his absence. He revealed that medical issues prevented him from being cleared to fight, despite his efforts to push through. Ultimately, the decision was out of his hands.
“I’m heartbroken to announce that I won’t be fighting on August 2nd,” he shared. “I finished my whole training camp and did everything I could, but I wasn’t medically cleared in time.”
The UFC and the commission decided it was best for his safety. Albazi expressed respect for their decision, even though he was eager to compete. “I’ll be back stronger and better,” he promised, viewing this as a temporary setback.
He extended gratitude to his fans, team, and supporters, acknowledging their unwavering support through his journey. Currently ranked No. 4 in the UFC flyweight division, Albazi’s career has seen impressive highs.
With five straight wins at the start of his UFC tenure, he was on the brink of a title shot. However, a recent unanimous decision loss to Brandon Moreno at UFC Edmonton put a pause on his momentum. Albazi’s career record now stands at 17-2.
