Antonio Carlos Junior, known for his grappling skills in MMA, plans to utilize his jiu-jitsu against Karl Moore in the 2025 PFL light heavyweight grand prix, aiming for a submission while also leveraging his striking abilities.
Antonio Carlos Junior, known for his grappling prowess, sees jiu-jitsu as his primary weapon in MMA. This remains true as he prepares to face Karl Moore in the 2025 PFL light heavyweight grand prix in Orlando.
With 12 submissions in 16 victories, including five in the UFC, “Shoeface” aims to make Moore tap for the second time in his career. Impressive, right?
“He’s strategic and strong,” Junior shared with MMA Fighting. “He uses pressure against the cage. Not the most skilled, but consistent. Dangerous, you know? No easy fights here.”
Despite his grappling focus, Junior won’t neglect his stand-up game. He’s got skills there too.
“I’ll move around, exploit weaknesses, and aim for a submission,” Junior said. “But I won’t be one-dimensional. My striking? Better than his. We’re light heavyweights; alertness is key.”
Moore was last submitted by Paul Craig in 2015. Since then, he’s risen in the ranks, capturing the Cage Warriors belt and joining Bellator.
“Shoeface” believes his jiu-jitsu is unmatched. “Moore hasn’t faced anyone like me,” Junior remarked. “He had a close fight with Polizzi, but I see gaps. I must stay alert.”
A win Thursday advances Junior to face the winner between Karl Albrektsson and Simeon Powell. The $500,000 prize looms large.
“I’m eager to prove myself and move closer to another belt,” Junior said. “Fighting often suits me. I don’t cut much weight, unlike heavier guys. It’s a bit easier, even if I’m one of the smallest.”
