Attorney Shocked by New Charge Against Jon Jones, Claims Police Targeting Retired UFC Champion

Jon Jones‘ attorney criticizes Albuquerque Police for charging the retired UFC champion with leaving the scene of an accident, arguing the charges are based on false allegations by an intoxicated woman and claiming police misused resources.

Jon Jones’ attorney is fuming over the Albuquerque Police charging the retired UFC champ for leaving an accident scene in February. Christopher Dodd, who also defended Jones in another case, strongly denies the charge.

Jones faces a misdemeanor after a woman, involved in a car crash, claimed he was driving her vehicle and fled. She was reportedly intoxicated and partially clothed, according to the police.

“As Jon’s lawyer, I’m shocked by this decision,” Dodd stated. “In my career, I’ve never seen anything this bizarre and baseless.”

Dodd insists Jones wasn’t driving that night. He believes the woman made false allegations to dodge a DWI arrest, and the police fell for it. They even sought Jones’ phone records during a misdemeanor investigation, which Dodd finds unheard of.

“It’s unbelievable the police would waste resources on this,” he added. “It seems like they’re targeting Jon. We’ll ensure this baseless case gets dismissed.”

A report from Albuquerque Police reveals Jones said the woman was at his house earlier, drinking with him. She left intoxicated and later informed him of the accident.

The woman claimed she was hesitant to drink with Jones due to past incidents where he allegedly forced her to drive drunk. She stated they consumed alcohol and mushrooms together.

A “restroom incident” allegedly required her to remove her pants, intending for Jones to drive her home. She remembers him as the last person driving before the crash but recalls little else.

Police obtained Jones’ phone records, showing his device near the drinking location. A gap in records from 10:51 P.M. to 2:11 A.M. aligns with the accident time.

At 2:11 A.M., the woman tried calling Jones, but he didn’t answer. Between 2:17 A.M. and 11:34 A.M., Jones called her 13 times.

Body cam footage shows Jones texting her repeatedly, though message details are unavailable. The gap in his phone records led police to charge him, as he “cannot be excluded from the scene.”

Jones’ next court hearing is set for July 24. The complaint emerged after UFC CEO Dana White announced Jones’ retirement and title relinquishment. White was unaware of the charges until his flight home from an event in Azerbaijan.
