BJ Penn’s Mother Seeks Restraining Order for Abuse Claims

B.J. Penn’s mother, Lorraine Shin, filed for a restraining order against him due to alleged psychological abuse and theft, following his arrests for abusing a family member, amid claims of delusional behavior.

B.J. Penn’s mother, Lorraine Shin, has taken legal action against her son, filing for a restraining order after his recent arrests for family abuse. The request is still pending a judge’s decision.

Shin’s statement to authorities paints a troubling picture. She alleges Penn subjected her to extreme psychological abuse, claiming she wasn’t his real mother and had taken over her identity.

Penn, on the other hand, posted on Instagram, alerting the Hilo Police Department about his family’s alleged murders and requesting an investigation. A confusing situation, to say the least.

Upon returning from a trip on May 11, Shin found her belongings missing. Penn reportedly denied knowledge of their whereabouts, leading her to file a theft report.

Things escalated. On May 16, Shin’s purse and safe locks disappeared. Penn allegedly claimed the safe’s contents were his, prompting another police report.

To protect herself, Shin installed security cameras and a deadbolt. However, Penn allegedly tampered with these, even gluing her lock shut.

Despite police warnings, Penn continued these actions. On May 25, Shin found duct tape on her cameras and glue in her lock again.

Her son Reagan helped her regain access by climbing through a window. Shin also suspected Penn of taking her mail, which he denied, yet she later found it in a friend’s vehicle.

A confrontation ensued. Shin claims Penn used a flashlight to prevent her from calling the police, leading to physical altercations and another police call.

Penn was arrested and told to stay away for 48 hours. Yet, the next morning, Shin found him sneaking out of her home, violating the order.

Shin believes Penn suffers from Capgras delusional syndrome, causing him to think she’s an imposter. She seeks a six-month restraining order and urges medical treatment for him.

Penn has other legal issues, including a civil lawsuit and a separate restraining order involving a woman and two minors. Despite these controversies, Penn hasn’t publicly addressed his mother’s allegations.

Known as a UFC legend, Penn’s career saw him become a champion in two weight classes. His last fight in 2019 ended in a seventh straight defeat, marking his exit from the sport.
