Chris Weidman gives an account of foot injury causing 2-year hiatus from fighting.

Chris Weidman suffered a horrific foot injury that has sidelined him from MMA for more than 2 years, but he recently updated fans on his rehab and hopes to return to the Octagon in Summer 2023.

Former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman suffered a horrific injury back in April 2021 that left him out of action for more than two years. Weidman explained that the injury was as painful as it looked, and he begged for painkillers as soon as he felt the pain kicking in. He broke his leg, and the bones were moving around as they were trying to hold it in place while he was being taken to the hospital. Weidman was left with a titanium rod through the middle of his shin bone, from the top of his knee down to the bottom of the tibia.

Now, two years after the injury, Weidman updated fans on his rehabilitation progress and the road ahead. He believes he is pretty much good on paper, but he still has some work to do to get the quad and the calf a bit stronger. When that happens, he will be good to go. Although the pain still persists when he is up on his toes and bouncing, Weidman is doing physical therapy to strengthen his leg.

Weidman is looking at a Summer 2023 return to the Octagon, and he insists that his goal is to kick as hard as he possibly can and defy the odds. “I just want to defy the odds. Imagine that,” he said. He believes that he can handle the pressure and the expectations, given his experience in MMA.

Despite the injury and his subsequent recovery, Weidman remains upbeat about his future in the UFC. Although he faces a long road of endurance and rehabilitation, he has every intention of returning to MMA stronger and fiercer than ever before.
