Conor McGregor Slams Justin Gaethje as ‘Braindead Fool’ Over UFC Title Shot Remarks

Conor McGregor criticized Justin Gaethje for threatening to quit the sport if McGregor gets a title shot, calling him a “braindead fool” and highlighting Gaethje’s own title shot after just one win.

Conor McGregor is not pleased with Justin Gaethje. Earlier this month, Gaethje secured a majority decision victory over Rafael Fiziev at UFC 286, putting him back on track and potentially one win away from another title shot. However, McGregor’s planned return to the cage later this year against Michael Chandler could cause “Notorious” to leapfrog Gaethje in the lightweight rankings.

Gaethje recently stated that if McGregor were to get a title shot before him, he would probably quit the sport. This comment did not sit well with McGregor, who responded on Twitter. “This braindead fool got a title shot off of one single win and it was vs chandler. Yet he will quit and retire if I get the same thing. Classic gathje bird brain. #Jackass Two Title attempt. No wins. #geathje,” McGregor tweeted.

Despite being the biggest star in MMA, McGregor has had a difficult time inside the cage since winning the lightweight title in 2016. He holds a 1-3 record in the sport since then, with his sole win being a welterweight contest against Donald Cerrone in 2020. Most recently, McGregor suffered two losses to Dustin Poirier, the second of which ended with a shattered leg in the first round.

Since then, McGregor has been in recovery and is expected to face Chandler later this year after coaching opposite the former Bellator champion on Season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter.
