Daniel Cormier Plans Wrestling Match Against Jon Jones

Daniel Cormier anticipates a potential wrestling match with Jon Jones in the Real American Freestyle league, reigniting their storied rivalry.

Daniel Cormier imagines a world where he and Jon Jones clash once more, but this time on the wrestling mats.

Cormier and Jones share one of MMA’s most legendary rivalries. Years of trading barbs and heated exchanges in the media culminated in two UFC battles. Jones won both, although the second was overturned to a no-contest due to a positive test for a banned substance. Now, Cormier’s eager for a rematch.

On Monday, Cormier chatted with fellow Olympian Ben Askren, expressing confidence that he and Jones will meet in the new wrestling league, Real American Freestyle.

“I’m telling you, Real American Freestyle will see me and Jon Jones at some point,” Cormier declared. “And I’m gonna kick his ass like you wouldn’t believe. ‘Cause guess what? I still shoot. I still train wrestlers every single day.”

Their rivalry stretches back to before either was a household name.

They first crossed paths at UFC 121, before Jones became the light heavyweight champion or Cormier joined the UFC. Jones jokingly claimed he could take down the two-time Olympic wrestler. That didn’t sit well with Cormier, sparking a decade-long feud.
