Darren Till plans to return to the UFC in the future after taking time away from the promotion to focus on boxing, but expressed his desire to have meaningful fights and make a lot of money when he does come back to MMA.
Darren Till recently spoke about his departure from the UFC and his plans for the future. Despite his recent struggles in the promotion, Till remains determined to return to the UFC eventually. In March, Till asked for and was granted his release from the organization, surprising many MMA fans. Till revealed that after losing his fight against Dricus du Plessis, he spoke to the UFC’s Chief Business Officer, Hunter Campbell, who assured him that he still has the potential to succeed. However, Till requested some time away from the UFC to reevaluate his future and focus on personal matters.
Till emphasized his strong relationship with Dana White and Hunter Campbell, stating that he has always been direct and honest with them. Although he has expressed concerns about fighter pay in the past, he has never publicly criticized the UFC. Till appreciates the support he has received from the promotion and believes that his departure was necessary to relieve the pressure and allow him to regain his fighting spirit. He acknowledged that he has a long way to go before achieving greatness again and wants to focus on being a good fighter first.
While Till was once considered one of the best fighters in the world, he has faced numerous setbacks in recent years. After challenging for the welterweight title in 2018, he suffered consecutive losses and made the move to middleweight. However, Till’s record at middleweight has been underwhelming, with only one win in four fights. Despite being free to pursue MMA fights with other organizations, Till currently has no interest in that path and is instead focused on boxing.
Till revealed that he has received offers from major MMA organizations since leaving the UFC but turned them down. He believes it would be disrespectful to sign with another organization immediately after expressing his need for time away from the sport. Till eventually plans to accept an offer to fight Mike Perry, a rival from his welterweight days, in a boxing match. He hopes to have his first boxing match this year and then proceed to face Perry in 2024. Till anticipates that the fight will garner significant attention, particularly in the UK where he has a large following.
While Till’s current focus is on boxing, he remains open to the possibility of returning to the UFC in the future. He expressed his desire to make another run in MMA, not solely for the money but to have meaningful fights and contribute to the sport. Although he acknowledges that he wants to make a lot of money, Till’s ultimate goal is to provide thrilling fights for his fans and leave a lasting impact in the octagon.
