Deiveson Figueiredo suffered a knee injury during his loss to Cory Sandhagen at UFC Des Moines, which doesn’t require surgery but necessitates physical therapy, allowing him to plan a return to fighting soon.
Deiveson Figueiredo, the two-time flyweight champ, faced a tough break at UFC Des Moines. A nasty knee injury during his bout with Cory Sandhagen spelled trouble. But guess what? No surgery needed!
His manager, Alex Davis, spilled the beans to MMA Fighting. Figueiredo tore his anterolateral ligament. Ouch! Thankfully, it’s not severe. Just some physical therapy and rest. He’s already on it.
The injury hit in round two. Sandhagen sat up during a grappling move, and bam—Figueiredo’s knee twisted awkwardly. Pain shot through him. Next thing you know, he’s tapping out. Sandhagen wins by TKO.
“It’s very painful,” Davis shared. Yet, it wasn’t a finish. Just a freak accident. A small twist of fate, really.
Replays showed the knee pop. Figueiredo’s face said it all. Agony. He was helped out of the octagon, then back home to Brazil for treatment.
Now, with surgery off the table, Figueiredo’s already itching to fight again. He’s eager to hit the gym ASAP.
This loss was a bummer. Especially after Figueiredo’s move to bantamweight, where he had three wins in a row. Iowa wasn’t the comeback he hoped for.
No timeline yet on his return. But Davis says Figueiredo’s ready to dive back in once healed. Can’t keep a good fighter down!
