Former UFC and current ONE Championship titleholder, Demetrious Johnson, won first place in the featherweight division of the IBJJF Masters World jiu-jitsu competition.
Former UFC and ONE Championship titleholder, Demetrious Johnson, recently accomplished yet another feat by winning first place in the 2023 IBJJF Masters World jiu-jitsu competition, marking another milestone in his illustrious career. The competition kicked off in Las Vegas where Johnson competed in the featherweight (154.6 pounds) gi division at Las Vegas Convention Center. A video emerging from the contest showed Johnson displaying top-notch skills by securing an armbar on one competitor, then dominating another.
Johnson’s venture into jiu-jitsu came as a pause to his career in the MMA. He is the flyweight (135 pounds) Champion of ONE, which he regained in April 2022 after a surprise loss to Adriano Moraes. Johnson not only won the title back but also defended it successfully during ONE’s U.S. debut “trilogy” event held in May.
In a recent interview on “The MMA Hour,” Johnson shared that his return to MMA would depend on fights that pique his interest, which he candidly admitted were quite scarce. Additionally, he showed interest in exploring other combat activities, including rolling with popular fitness influencer, Bradley Martyn. Johnson, who holds the UFC record for the most consecutive title defenses at 11, lost his flyweight title to Henry Cejudo, following which he became part of ONE Championship and has a current record of 5-1.
