Derrick Lewis Discusses UFC Nashville Celebration

Derrick Lewis secured a 35-second knockout against Tallison Teixeira at UFC Nashville, followed by a controversial celebration and comments criticizing Teixeira’s previous opponents and the fight’s stoppage.

Derrick Lewis made a statement in the UFC Nashville main event, both with his fists and a memorable post-fight celebration. After a swift 35-second knockout of Tallison Teixeira, Lewis didn’t hold back.

He removed his shorts, mimed urinating in his opponent’s corner, tossed his cup into the crowd, mooned the audience, and then, in his post-fight speech, declared his intentions to make love to his wife. Quite the spectacle, right?

Check out his interview below.

Chatting with cageside commenter and former opponent Daniel Cormier, Lewis explained his antics. “They been talking shit all week, man,” he told Cormier. “I can’t speak Portuguese, but I know for sure they was talking shit about me. F*ck ‘em.”

Lewis’ celebrations are as popular as his reputation for knockouts. With this victory, he extended his record of KOs/TKOs to 16, tying with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone for the most finishes in UFC history, just behind Jim Miller and Charles Oliveira.

The stoppage had its share of controversy. Referee Jason Herzog stepped in as Teixeira was trying to get back up, but Lewis was landing hard punches. Teixeira only managed to stand by illegally grabbing the fence.

Lewis wasn’t impressed. “That’s a ho-ass move right there,” he said. “I know I had his ass hurt.”

The veteran fighter dismissed Teixeira’s 8-0 record, questioning the level of competition. “I just knew he’d been fighting tomato cans his whole career,” Lewis remarked. “I need some more of them taxi cab drivers they got in Brazil for my next fight.”

At the post-fight press conference, Lewis elaborated on the stoppage. “Yes, I expected the ref [to step in],” he said. “The ref should have been stopping it because [Teixeira] went in and out a couple of times before he even started grabbing the cage.”

In his words, “I know if I throw anything at anybody, no matter what it is, I know that they’re going to go down.”
