Dillon Danis Hits Back at Critics Over Sparring & Head Conditioning Videos

Videos of Dillon Danis hitting his head against a sauna railing before his boxing match with Logan Paul raised concern, but Danis defended his training methods, saying they were part of his preparation and inspired by Mike Perry.

When training videos surfaced of Dillon Danis violently banging his head against a sauna railing before his boxing match against Logan Paul, audiences were left puzzled. However, Danis countered that the understanding of these videos was distorted; the reality was something quite different. He identified his training with former UFC middleweight champion Alex Pereira for his resilience. Danis also mentioned Mike Perry, Paul’s backup for the Oct. 14 boxing match, to be the inspiration for his self-inflicted head trauma during his sauna training sessions.

In an interview on The MMA Hour, Danis remarked, “I only sparred Pereira and that was f****** warming up. Do you know how hard Pereira hits? He hurt me, he was like, ‘Boa.’ Then we sparred a hard six rounds, 100 percent.” He solicited corroboration from his “security guard” off-camera to affirm the grueling intensity of the session. Assertively defending his training and prowess, Danis asked, “How many people would do that? You think Logan Paul could last 100 percent with Pereira? He was going 100 percent, so stop f****** discrediting my boxing.”

Paul had previously mocked Danis’ unconventional training methods and speculated that they were merely a strategy to opt-out of their scheduled fight. A clause was included in their contract that stated Danis would have to pay $100,000 if he was unable to fight due to an unverifiable injury. Despite the skepticism, Danis held his ground, drawing comparisons to Perry’s similar training method. He said, “You know how Perry does that in the sauna, I was conditioning my head. I’ve got a hard head,” and further clarified the release of the odd video, saying, “because it was content?”

The lead-up to the six-round, 195-pound exhibition boxing match has been overwhelmed by an intense social media feud between Danis, Paul, and Paul’s fiancée, Nina Agdal, who sued Danis over a video posted by him. The heavyweight Paul, on the other hand, is the bookies’ favorite. Meanwhile, Danis marks his return to the competition after a hiatus of four years due to a severe knee injury that he said was “fine” for him. Despite the mockery and uncertainty, Danis remains unfazed. He stated, “I think when you have two knee surgeries, it will never be 100 percent. Boxing is so easy compared to MMA. The thing with me, I’m so hated, or now I guess I’m loved, everybody always just wants to put me down. I don’t mind it, because I bring it upon myself. But no one ever just gives me credit for anything. I feel like I deserve some respect for a lot of things I do.”
