Elves Brener’s UFC Vegas 108 Promise to His Mother

Elves Brener is determined to win against Esteban Ribovics at UFC Vegas 108 to avoid disappointing his mother for a third time, despite recent losses, and believes his preparation and skills will lead to victory.

Losing streaks can weigh heavily on an MMA fighter’s shoulders. Elves Brener, however, is determined not to let his mom face another heartbreak this weekend against Esteban Ribovics.

When these exciting lightweights clash at UFC Vegas 108 on Aug. 2, Brener’s motivation is clear. After defeats to Myktybek Orolbai and Joel Alvarez in 2024, he’s fighting for his mom’s happiness.

“Many lose their hunger after losses,” Brener told MMA Fighting. “But I’m still happy, win or lose. I promised my mom she won’t cry this time. It’s the other mother who will.”

In 2023, Brener shone with three straight wins in his first UFC year. Knockouts over Guram Kutateladze and Kaynan Kruschewsky earned him bonuses. Despite the skid, he sees a bright future.

“I love what I do,” Brener said. “I train daily for the UFC. I’m top-15, top-10, even top-5 material. Those losses? Just a moment.”

Brener was briefly linked to a fight with Daniel Zellhuber in Mexico City. But with only three weeks’ notice, he declined. Now, with a six-week camp in Sao Paulo, he’s ready for Ribovics.

“I struggle with taller opponents,” Brener admitted. “But Ribovics is easier than Zellhuber. Despite being aggressive and strong, we’ll brawl, brother [laughs].”

Ribovics has never been finished in MMA. “That’s because he hasn’t been punched by a hand like mine,” Brener said.

“When my hand connects, people drop,” he continued. “It’ll be a great fight. If he has good cardio, I have more. Good boxing? I’m better. We’ll brawl and put on a show. I love my job.”
