Erin Blanchfield was paid her full show and win bonus after her UFC Vegas 107 fight was canceled due to Maycee Barber‘s medical issues, despite Barber missing weight, and Blanchfield now seeks a top-five opponent for her next bout.
Erin Blanchfield won’t return home as a victor from UFC Vegas 107, but at least she’ll be compensated like one. The seasoned flyweight from New Jersey didn’t get to fight Saturday night. Her opponent, Maycee Barber, wasn’t medically cleared, leading to the cancellation of the main event just before their octagon walk. Quite the letdown for Blanchfield, but she won’t leave empty-handed.
The UFC decided to pay Blanchfield both her show and win bonuses despite the unfortunate cancellation. Oren Hodak, her longtime manager from KO Reps, confirmed this news to MMA Fighting after initially sharing it on Twitter. It’s the best possible outcome for Blanchfield, considering Barber’s last-minute withdrawal and her weight miss by half a pound, which cost her 20% of her purse.
Although Blanchfield would have preferred to compete, receiving her full pay allows her to rest and recover from a grueling training camp. She can now focus on booking her next UFC appearance. After the fight’s cancellation, Blanchfield dismissed the idea of rescheduling with Barber. She’s aiming for a top-ranked opponent instead.
“No, I would not want to book another fight with her,” Blanchfield stated at the post-fight press conference. “I want to reassess, see who’s available.” She’s still eyeing a top-five fight, pushing toward a title shot. Conversations with her manager and Mick Maynard will determine her next move.
Blanchfield recently defeated former UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas. She remains a formidable contender for the current flyweight queen, Valentina Shevchenko, after her victory over Manon Fiorot at UFC 315 in May.
