Ex-UFC Champ May Retire This Year

Sean O’Malley plans to fight Song Yadong at UFC 324 and hopes to face Petr Yan next, aiming for a title shot and contemplating retirement if his career doesn’t progress as planned.

Sean O’Malley’s got some big dreams for 2026. But first, he’s stepping back into the octagon this month.

He’s set to face Song Yadong at UFC 324. It’s a crucial bout for O’Malley, especially since he’s on a two-fight skid. Yet, his mind isn’t just on this fight.

“I’m still prepping for Petr,” O’Malley shared on YouTube. “Can’t overlook Song, though. He’s dangerous, fast, power in both hands. But Petr’s on my radar too.”

Why the focus on Yan? Their history is rich. O’Malley snagged a split decision over Yan back in 2022, leading to his first title shot. Now, with Yan holding the belt again, O’Malley sees another title opportunity just a win away.

“Petr knows,” O’Malley declared. “I’ll handle Song, then it’s Petr’s turn. Makes sense, right? 2026’s gonna be wild. Handle Song, tackle Petr, and watch DoingWell explode. Might even retire. Could be the last ‘Suga’ year.”

Is retirement serious or just talk? It’s on his mind. He’s hinted at stepping away if things don’t pan out.

“Predicting the future’s pointless,” O’Malley mused. “One fight at a time. Lose a couple, and I’m done with this.”

The plan? Beat Song, then face Petr. After that, who knows? Life’s unpredictable.

UFC 324 is set for Jan. 24 at T-Mobile Arena in Vegas. The main event? An interim lightweight title clash between Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett.
