Ex-UFC Champion Germaine de Randamie Retires from MMA

Former UFC featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie announced her retirement from mixed martial arts, citing the inability to secure a farewell fight before her self-imposed deadline of December 31, 2024, and expressing gratitude for her 25-year career.

Germaine de Randamie, former UFC featherweight champ, has officially “left the building.” Yep, she’s retired from MMA, as she announced Thursday.

At 40, after returning to the cage in April 2024 post-motherhood, she decided to hang up her gloves. She was offered a bout with Jacqueline Cavalcanti for Jan. 11 but said, “I promised myself I would retire from fighting December 31st, 2024.”

“This isn’t how I pictured it,” de Randamie shared on social media. “But life throws punches, right? I’ve been in touch with the UFC since getting cleared by my doctor. I literally begged them for one more fight this year. Every card was fully booked though. It hurts, but that’s life. So here’s my message: after 25 years, I’m laying my gloves down.”

De Randamie exits MMA with a record of 10-5. Seven wins came under the UFC banner, including a featherweight title victory over Holly Holm. She’s also beaten future champs like Julianna Peña and Raquel Pennington. Her last fight? A decision loss to Norma Dumont.

“I wish for one more fight,” she lamented. “But it’s not happening. Time to lay my gloves down and retire. It’s been an incredible 25-year rollercoaster. Highs and lows beyond imagination. I’m blessed for what I achieved and will still train with others on their journeys, but actively, I’m retiring today.”

“Thanks to everyone, especially the UFC,” she expressed gratitude. “It’s been an amazing ride. Remember: die with memories, not dreams. The Iron Lady has finally left the building.”
