During SFT 58 in Brazil, featherweight fighter Igor Elizeu suffered a gruesome broken leg while exchanging kicks with Pedro Morais, reminiscent of similar injuries in the UFC involving Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman.
Fighters get injured all the time. But there’s something especially gut-wrenching about a broken leg mid-fight.
That’s exactly what happened in Brazil on Saturday at SFT 58. Featherweights Pedro Morais and Igor Elizeu were exchanging kicks. Just over a minute in, things took a brutal turn.
Morais threw a kick, and Elizeu responded. But when Elizeu’s kick landed, his leg snapped. The bone twisted backward as he tried to plant his foot on the canvas. Ouch.
The referee rushed in, stopping the fight immediately. Elizeu was on the ground, clearly in agony.
This isn’t unheard of, though. Remember Anderson Silva’s infamous leg break against Chris Weidman in 2013? Ironically, Weidman suffered a similar fate in 2021 against Uriah Hall.
Thankfully, both Silva and Weidman bounced back. Let’s hope Elizeu can do the same after this gruesome injury.
