Gilbert Burns Eyes Career Turnaround with UFC Vegas 106 Win Over Morales

Gilbert Burns, facing a pivotal moment in his career after three consecutive losses, is determined to make a comeback against undefeated Michael Morales at UFC Vegas 106, having made significant training and strategy adjustments to regain his winning form.

Gilbert Burns finds himself at a pivotal moment in his career as he enters UFC Vegas 106. After three consecutive losses, he’s eager to turn things around against the undefeated Michael Morales. Burns sees this fight as the perfect chance to start a comeback story worthy of the big screen.

Initially set for UFC 315 in Canada, Burns’ fight was moved to headline UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas. “Durinho” has faced many delays, from Miami to Kansas City, but he views these changes positively. “It gave me more time to prepare and study this guy,” Burns told MMA Fighting.

Since 2020, Burns has been one of the most active fighters, facing top contenders like Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal. With a record of 5-5 during this period, he’s had to reflect deeply after recent setbacks.

Jiu-jitsu veteran Vagner Rocha reached out to Burns following his loss to Sean Brady. “He was black and white, hard honest talk,” Burns said. Rocha’s candid advice led to significant changes in Burns’ training approach.

Burns admitted his performance against Brady was not up to par. “I fought with no energy,” he reflected. Determined to improve, he brought in new trainers and a nutritionist to revamp his preparation.

With Vicente Luque’s cousin Lucas Catta Preta managing his nutrition and Henry Hooft leading his camp, Burns feels ready for Morales. Training with fighters like Shavkat Rakhmonov has boosted his confidence.

Burns acknowledges Morales’ athleticism and reach, noting the need for a smart strategy. “We have to drown him to end with this explosiveness,” he explained, focusing on movement and control.

Facing four consecutive losses would be tough, especially as he nears 39. Yet, Burns remains optimistic, drawing confidence from past performances against top fighters like Della Maddalena.

“This is the fight to go back to the winning track,” Burns asserted. Despite the risks, he believes a victory over Morales could propel him back into contention. “It’s on me to believe and turn this movie into reality,” he concluded, eyeing a triumphant comeback.
