GLORY 100, initially planned as a two-day event, will now occur on June 14 at Rotterdam Ahoy, featuring heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven defending against Artem Vakhitov, along with three other title fights, due to fan feedback on costs.
GLORY is shaking things up for its biggest event yet. Originally a two-day spectacle set for June 13 and 14, GLORY 100 will now unfold in one action-packed night on June 14 at Rotterdam Ahoy in the Netherlands.
Rico Verhoeven, the heavyweight champ, is set to defend his title against Artem Vakhitov, a former two-time light heavyweight champion and recent Dana White Contender Series contract winner. Quite the matchup!
The change in schedule? It’s all about the fans. A press release on Wednesday revealed the decision came after fans expressed concerns over the cost of attending two events.
“We’ve listened to the fans,” said GLORY CEO Marshall Zelaznik. “By combining everything into one major event, everyone can enjoy the full scope of GLORY 100 without breaking the bank.”
Verhoeven, at 36, is chasing his 13th consecutive title defense. A living legend in the kickboxing world, he hasn’t lost since 2015. Talk about dominance!
Vakhitov, meanwhile, recently turned heads with an MMA victory over Islem Masraf on the Contender Series, earning a UFC contract offer. But he turned it down due to negotiation constraints.
“Under their protocols, they could only offer me the standard contract,” Vakhitov explained. “I respect their structure, but I’m a prizefighter with a family. I need to make the most of my career.”
Fans were hoping to see Vakhitov face off against longtime rival Alex Pereira in the octagon. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Their rivalry remains split, with Vakhitov winning their last encounter in September 2021.
GLORY 100 will also feature three other title fights. Tarik Khbabez battles Sergej Maslobojev, Donovan Wisse takes on Michael Boapeah, and Petch rematches Miguel Trindade. Quite the lineup!
