Ex-UFC fighter Greg Hardy was arrested in Richardson, Texas, on charges related to assaulting a family member following an alleged altercation with his girlfriend, and he is currently in custody awaiting arraignment.
Ex-UFC fighter Greg Hardy is in jail, awaiting arraignment after being arrested for allegedly assaulting a family member in Richardson, Texas. Jail officials confirmed to MMA Fighting that Hardy remains in custody after his arrest on Wednesday afternoon.
Hardy’s expected to appear before a judge on Thursday, where they’ll likely set his bond. TMZ initially broke the news.
According to an arrest report, Hardy was involved in a physical altercation with his girlfriend. Police say the incident began when she accused him of cheating after discovering messages from another woman on his phone.
The confrontation escalated when Hardy allegedly pushed her onto the bed and held her down by the neck. His girlfriend claims her breathing wasn’t restricted, nor did she lose consciousness.
In the heat of the moment, she kicked him away, and Hardy allegedly grabbed her feet, spun her, and took her car keys before leaving. Police noted “scratches and redness” on her arms, consistent with a physical altercation.
When contacted, Hardy admitted to an argument but insisted he only moved her to the bed by grabbing her arms. He was adamant that nothing more happened.
Police decided to arrest Hardy based on the report, taking him into custody on the stated charges. Hardy, 36, last fought in the UFC in 2022, suffering a third consecutive loss before his release.
Before MMA, Hardy was known for his football career, playing defense for teams like the Dallas Cowboys. His UFC signing faced backlash due to a 2014 domestic violence arrest while in the NFL. That case was dismissed when his then-girlfriend didn’t appear for trial.
In 2016, Hardy was also arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance after cocaine was found in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
