Heavyweight Jiu-Jitsu Champ Mahamed Aly Wins MMA Debut with Head-Kick Knockout

Jiu-jitsu champion Mahamed Aly won his MMA debut in Houston, TX, with a stoppage against one-time Bellator veteran John Ott, and expressed his ambition to join the UFC and win the heavyweight title.

Mahamed Aly, a jiu-jitsu mastermind, made a stunning entrance into MMA on Saturday night. The fight took place in Houston, TX, and boy, was it a sight to see!

Aly was up against John Ott, a one-time Bellator veteran, in the co-main event of PCS 4. He didn’t just face Ott, he dominated him, leaving the heavyweight bloodied before the first round was over. A perfect right kick to the head was all it took to bring Ott down.

In his post-fight interview, Aly made it clear that he’s not just a jiu-jitsu guy. “I’m not here just to be a jiu-jitsu guy that comes here and finishes people, even though I will finish a lot of people,” he said. He’s here to show off his striking skills too. “I want to throw a lot of elbows, a lot of knees. I couldn’t do it today, but the goal was to throw a lot of knees, a lot of elbows, see some blood. We saw some blood, but I wanted a little more.”

Aly, who just turned 30 this month, has big dreams for his MMA career. He’s got his sights set on joining the UFC and eventually earning the UFC heavyweight title. Ambitious, isn’t he?

“We have eight more years,” Aly said. “We’re just getting started.” And judging by his debut, he’s not kidding around.

Aly’s not new to winning, though. He’s collected several major titles in the jiu-jitsu circuit as a black belt. He won the IBJJF World Championship without and with the gi in 2015 and 2018, respectively. Plus, he’s got three gold medals from the 2017 IBJJF European Open under his belt. He’s even got grappling wins over big names like Nicholas Meregali, Alexandre Ribeiro, and Dillon Danis.

Now, with a 1-0 record in MMA, it’s clear that Aly’s just getting started. And we can’t wait to see what’s next!
