Ian Machado Garry and Jack Della Maddalena‘s feud escalated during UFC 315 fight week after Della Maddalena allegedly insulted Garry’s son, leading to further exchanges and speculation about a potential future bout between the two fighters.
Ian Machado Garry and Jack Della Maddalena had a bit of a strange moment during UFC 315 fight week. Now? The drama’s spilling over.
"The Future" recently spilled the beans to Ariel Helwani. He said Della Maddalena made a rude comment about his son before the May 10 event in Montreal. This event wrapped up with Della Maddalena snagging the UFC welterweight title from Belal Muhammad. Garry had his son offer Della Maddalena candy—a cheeky hint that the Aussie should miss weight and lose the fight. Garry was the backup for the main event, after all.
But then, Della Maddalena allegedly crossed a line. He suggested Garry’s son wasn’t his. Ouch. Garry thought that was way out of line. The spat took another turn when Garry mocked Della Maddalena’s looks, comparing him to Sloth from The Goonies.
Check out the Instagram video below. It’s a ride.
"I’m in a comic book shop in England, and I’m floored," Garry said. "Never seen the UFC push an action figure like Jack Della Maddalena’s. World champ with your own figure. Proud of you, mate. Good job."
A fight between Della Maddalena and Garry would definitely grab attention. Garry knows how to hype a match. But Della Maddalena’s first title defense is already on the cards. He’s set to face off against Islam Makhachev later this year. Date? Still up in the air, after Makhachev vacated his lightweight title.
Della Maddalena’s on fire with an 8-0 UFC record and an 18-fight win streak since 2016. Meanwhile, Garry’s 9-1 in the UFC, bouncing back strong with a win over Carlos Prates after his only octagon loss.
