Jamahal Hill Takes Break After UFC Baku Loss

Jamahal Hill, after suffering his third consecutive loss at UFC Baku against Khalil Rountree, plans to take time off to heal from injuries and make necessary changes to regain his championship form.

Jamahal Hill’s heading back to the drawing board. After suffering his third consecutive loss at UFC Baku, the former light heavyweight champ is in a slump that started in April 2024. Facing Khalil Rountree, Hill lost in a lackluster decision.

On his YouTube channel, Hill opened up about the defeat. He admitted he hasn’t been at his best and needs to make changes to regain his former glory. “I haven’t been on my level for quite some time,” he confessed.

Hill highlighted the impact of injuries on his performance. “An Achilles tear is a career-ender for many,” he explained, noting additional knee injuries. Ignoring advice to take his time, Hill rushed his comeback, which he now regrets.

At 34, Hill had captured the vacant UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 283. However, he forfeited it six months later after rupturing his Achilles playing basketball. His comeback at UFC 300 ended in a knockout by Alex Pereira.

Although he hasn’t set a date for his next fight, Hill plans to take time off. He wants to heal properly and adjust his training. “I haven’t felt like myself in quite some time,” he admitted, emphasizing the need to change his preparation.

“I’m going to take time out,” Hill said. He aims to return as the exciting fighter and dominant champion he knows he can be. The loss to Rountree surprised him, especially the 50-45 scores, which he felt didn’t reflect the fight’s competitiveness.

Despite the outcome, Hill gave credit to Rountree. “Congratulations to Khalil Rountree,” he said, acknowledging his opponent’s hunger and strategy. Rountree’s game plan focused on attacking Hill’s legs, which he executed well.

Hill expected a more engaging fight. “The onus is on me to make fighters fight the fight I want,” he reflected. Moving forward, Hill’s determined to reclaim his championship form and deliver thrilling performances once again.
