Zhang Mingyang will headline a UFC event in Shanghai against Johnny Walker, with a co-main event featuring Aljamain Sterling versus Brian Ortega.
Zhang Mingyang’s getting the spotlight now. Yep, main event status!
UFC CEO Dana White announced on Wednesday night that the promotion’s heading back to Shanghai. Mark your calendars for Aug. 23 at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium. The main event? A light heavyweight clash between Zhang and Johnny Walker.
“The Mountain Tiger” burst onto the UFC scene last year. Three first-round knockouts, all earning Performance bonuses. His latest victory? Stopping Anthony Smith in Smith’s retirement bout at UFC Kansas City in April.
Walker, on the other hand, isn’t having the best run. He’s on a two-fight losing streak, both in 2024. He was supposed to face Azamat Murzakanov at UFC 316 but had to pull out due to injury. Ouch.
And the co-main event? It’s a featherweight showdown. Former bantamweight champ Aljamain Sterling vs. two-time featherweight title challenger Brian Ortega. Sterling’s coming off a unanimous decision loss to Movsar Evloev at UFC 310. Meanwhile, Ortega dropped a decision to Diego Lopes at UFC 306.
What a lineup, right?
