Jon Jones Pursues Alex Pereira Megafight

Jon Jones and Alex Pereira are teasing a potential fight, with Pereira hinting at a matchup on social media and Jones responding, although uncertainties remain about their future plans and UFC CEO Dana White’s trust in Jones complicates scheduling.

Jon Jones heard Alex Pereira’s latest message loud and clear. The tension is palpable.

It’s only the start of 2026, and the future is murky. Will Jones, recently retired, step back into the octagon? Who knows? Meanwhile, Pereira, holding the UFC light heavyweight title, dreams of heavyweight glory. A third division, perhaps?

Despite the uncertainty, both fighters are stirring the pot. Pereira teased a potential clash with Jones on social media. A tire in one of his posts subtly read, “Next-Jones.” Coincidence? Probably not.

Jones fired back with his own Instagram story. “I’ve beat a lot of legends from your country, my friend,” he said. “I know you’d love to avenge the boys, but boy would you be a good one to add to my list. Be careful what you wish for.”

He wrapped it up with Pereira’s signature catchphrase, “Chama.” A cheeky nod, for sure.

Facing Pereira wouldn’t be Jones’s first rodeo with a Brazilian legend. Back in 2011, a 23-year-old Jones became the youngest UFC champion by defeating Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. He then dominated the 205-pound division for a decade, defeating stars like Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort, Glover Teixeira, and Thiago Santos.

In 2023, Jones clinched the UFC heavyweight title with a quick submission win over Ciryl Gane. A heavyweight kingpin, indeed.

Pereira, no slouch, is a two-division UFC champ. He captured titles at middleweight and light heavyweight. In 2024, he defended his 205-pound belt three times in seven months. Lost it to Magomed Ankalaev, then snatched it back with a knockout at UFC 320. What a whirlwind!

Yet, the potential matchup is tangled in complications. Jones has hinted at a comeback at June’s UFC White House event. But Dana White, ever cautious, doesn’t trust Jones enough for such a grand stage. And Pereira? He’s hinted that a White House showdown isn’t likely.

The plot thickens. Who knows what twists await?
