Jon Jones, confident and teasing a return, has not fought since November and faces speculation about a potential fight with interim champion Tom Aspinall, who has expressed interest in a unification bout that Jones seems to dismiss.
Jon Jones might fight soon. But one thing’s for sure—his confidence is sky-high.
The UFC heavyweight champ has been dropping hints on social media. He’s been traveling the world, suggesting the UFC should know what’s coming. Since defending his title against Stipe Miocic last November, Jones, 37, has only fought twice since 2020.
The big question? Will he ever face Tom Aspinall, the UFC’s interim heavyweight champ? Aspinall, 32, keeps pushing for a unification bout. But Jones? Not so much.
Recently, “Bones” shared a cheeky Instagram Story. It showed a dog calmly wrestling another, noisier dog, with the caption: “What I feel like returning to the UFC after some much-needed downtime.”
You can check out the clip, courtesy of Championship Rounds. It’s a clear jab at Aspinall, whom Jones often dismisses as unworthy. Aspinall, though, is 8-1 in the UFC and recently avenged his only loss to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304. That win marked his first interim title defense, matching Jones in heavyweight defenses.
Before going heavyweight, Jones ruled the light heavyweight division for over a decade. He nabbed the vacant heavyweight belt at UFC 285 with a dominant submission against Ciryl Gane, after Francis Ngannou‘s exit.
On a recent podcast, Aspinall expressed his frustration. He’s tired of chasing Jones and is ready for a new matchup.
