UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones will undergo surgery and several months of physical therapy to repair a torn pectoral tendon, forcing him to withdraw from his headliner fight against Stipe Miocic but he plans to return to fighting as soon as possible.
UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has revealed that he will undergo surgery to repair a torn pectoral tendon, which forced him to withdraw from his scheduled headliner bout against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295. In a video posted on his Instagram account, Jones mentioned that he would have to undergo physical therapy for several months to fully recover from the injury. However, he also expressed his determination to get back to work as soon as possible.
Apologizing to his fans and Miocic, Jones expressed his disappointment and stated that injuries are a part of being an athlete. He thanked the UFC for providing him with access to one of the best doctors in the country, and praised Miocic for the hard work he had put into the fight. In a previous video, Jones had shared the moment of his injury, a wrestling sequence in which he audibly cried out in pain.
According to UFC CEO Dana White, it is estimated that Jones will need around eight months to recover from the injury. White anticipates that once Jones is back to full health, the fight with Miocic will be rescheduled. There had been speculation that both Jones and Miocic may retire after facing each other at UFC 295, which would have led to a title fight between Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich. However, it remains uncertain how Jones’ injury will affect his career timeline.
Despite the setback, Jones remains steadfast in his determination to eventually face Miocic. He expressed his hope that the replacement heavyweights, Aspinall and Sergei, would put on a great show for the fans, and even hinted that he might attend the event as a spectator. In the video, Jones reassured his supporters that he was doing okay and sent them his love. The full video can be viewed on his Instagram account.
