Justin Gaethje Frustrated Over UFC Lightweight Title Fight

Justin Gaethje is frustrated that despite his recent win and past performances, he hasn’t been given a title shot, as the UFC prioritizes other fighters, and he demands better compensation or a guaranteed title fight before competing again.

Justin Gaethje isn’t exactly thrilled right now. After his recent victory over Rafael Fiziev at UFC 313, he expected a title shot against Islam Makhachev. But Makhachev moved to welterweight, leaving Gaethje out in the cold. Now, Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira will duke it out for the vacant lightweight title at UFC 317.

Gaethje’s win over Fiziev was a triumphant return after a brutal knockout loss to Max Holloway at UFC 300. That fight? More of a spectacle than a serious title contention, according to Gaethje. The current situation? It’s got him pretty ticked off.

“They owe me a championship fight,” Gaethje vented on The Makeshift Podcast. He’s 3-1 in his last four bouts, and the UFC practically begged him to face Holloway. He sees that match as an exhibition.

Sure, the loss is on his record, but it didn’t affect his division’s rankings. Meanwhile, Dustin Poirier, whom Gaethje had beaten, went on to fight for the belt after a solid win. Frustrating, right?

Since his victory over Fiziev, Makhachev expressed interest in fighting Gaethje. But instead, Makhachev vacated, and Oliveira, with a 2-2 record in his last four, is now in the title picture. Gaethje feels snubbed once again.

He’s not keen on taking fights just for fun unless the pay is significantly higher. If he’s going to risk it, he wants financial security or a guaranteed title shot. Otherwise, he’s not interested.

Gaethje has fought for the undisputed UFC gold twice, losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Oliveira. Known for his electrifying style, he’s a fan favorite who always delivers in the octagon.

For now, Gaethje will watch Topuria and Oliveira battle it out, hoping for his chance or a hefty paycheck for a contender fight. He demands respect and promises before stepping back into the cage.

“I’m the most consistent guy,” Gaethje stated. He believes in recognition for loyalty and hard work, much like a Christmas bonus for employees. He’s done with taking risks without proper acknowledgment.

Gaethje loves fighting for the UFC and has no desire to go elsewhere. But he’s not about to jeopardize his legacy for just anyone. He’s standing his ground.
