Kamaru Usman Rejects Belal Muhammad, Eyes Title Shot; Muhammad Responds

Kamaru Usman aims to reclaim the welterweight title after defeating Joaquin Buckley, dismissing past rivalries and focusing on facing the winner of the upcoming Jack Della Maddalena vs. Islam Makhachev fight.

Kamaru Usman is back in the spotlight, aiming for gold once more after dominating Joaquin Buckley at UFC Atlanta. He’s not interested in rekindling old rivalries, even with former champions.

After nearly two years away, Usman reminded everyone why he’s still a top welterweight. His victory was a masterclass in wrestling, stifling Buckley for most of the 25-minute bout.

“They forgot I could wrestle,” Usman said, referencing his last loss to Khamzat Chimaev. “I had to show them every aspect of my game deserves respect.”

Returning to the win column wasn’t easy. Usman battled personal and physical challenges, but with a solid team and family support, he’s back.

Belal Muhammad, a former rival, congratulated Usman on Twitter, hinting at a potential future clash. “Congrats, see you soon,” Muhammad wrote.

At the post-fight press conference, Usman was asked about facing Muhammad. His response? “Who is it? Next.”

Muhammad didn’t let that slide, reminding Usman of a heated podcast episode that ended in a physical altercation. “The guy who made you cry on your podcast,” Muhammad retorted.

Despite the drama, Usman’s focus remains on reclaiming the welterweight title. Current champ Jack Della Maddalena will face Islam Makhachev, and Usman wants the winner.

“I’m the biggest in the division,” Usman stated. “The UFC is about entertainment, and I’m here for the biggest fights.”

Usman respects Makhachev’s skills but warns not to overlook Della Maddalena. “JDM is no slouch,” he said. “He’s very, very talented.”

While excited about Makhachev’s move to welterweight, Usman refrained from predicting the outcome. He plans to watch the fight closely, ready to challenge the winner.

“I’ll be watching that fight,” Usman concluded. “I’ll take the winner.”
