Katie Taylor is open to a potential fight with Ronda Rousey, seeing it as an exciting opportunity for fans, while Rousey has yet to comment on the possibility.
Katie Taylor vs. Ronda Rousey—more than just whispers in the wind.
“Rousey’s an iconic figure in female sports,” Taylor remarked to BoxingScene. “Her mentality is incredible. You don’t get where she is without a fantastic mind.”
Taylor found the idea intriguing. “Seeing the headlines, I thought, ‘I’m ready for this fight.’”
Rousey, 38, hasn’t fought professionally since UFC 207 in December 2016. Amanda Nunes knocked her out in just 48 seconds. A second straight knockout after Holly Holm‘s head kick. It marked a career shift.
She ventured into acting and WWE wrestling. Despite dismissing comeback talks, her social media hints at training.
In her prime, Rousey dominated the UFC bantamweight division. Six title defenses, many under a minute. A true box office draw.
Taylor, at a WBC Convention in Thailand, said, “It’s an interesting fight. It captures fans’ imagination—what boxing needs. I’d be thrilled to fight Ronda.”
“I’m very open to fighting Ronda Rousey,” Taylor emphasized. “Absolutely open.”
Rousey is to women’s MMA what Taylor is to boxing. Taylor, an Olympic gold medalist, boasts a 25-1 pro record. Numerous titles, three wins over Amanda Serrano, with bouts aired on Netflix.
Rousey hasn’t commented yet, but Taylor seems ready to roll.
“Rousey has a huge following,” Taylor noted. “Stepping into the ring with such a legend would be a privilege. We’ll see what happens.”
