Manon Fiorot Defeats Rose Namajunas in Flyweight Debut: Professionals React

Rose Namajunas lost to Manon Fiorot in a unanimous decision in her flyweight debut, marking Fiorot’s 6-0 inside the octagon and leading her to call for a title shot, while Namajunas has now lost two consecutive fights.

Rose Namajunas’ transition to the flyweight division did not proceed as expected. Being a former strawweight champion, she now has to reformulate her strategy after a disappointing defeat. Namajunas suffered a defeat from Manon Fiorot in her 125-debut in the co-main event of Saturday’s UFC Paris card. The loss was a pretty clear unanimous decision in favor of Fiorot, the hometown fighter. The decision was so evident that one judge even awarded Fiorot all three rounds.

Fiorot, after this remarkable victory, now stands undefeated with a 6-0 record inside the octagon. Capitalizing on the momentum, Fiorot made an audacious call for a title shot against the winner of the upcoming flyweight title rematch. The rematch she referred to is the anticipated fight between Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko at Noche UFC, scheduled for later this month. Meanwhile, Namajunas, affectionately known as “Thug Rose,” has suffered two straight losses and now has a 3-3 record in her last six matches.

The mixed martial arts community had varied reactions in response to Fiorot’s victory over Namajunas. Alan Jouban took to Twitter expressing his admiration for the mental strength in Rose’s corner. Jouban mentioned, “I like the mindset in Roses corner. BUT, if the finger is possibly dislocated, I would have rather seen the issue addressed real quick then back to forget about the pain mentality. #UFCParis.” Another Twitter user Lerone Murphy praised the fight’s intensity while Jamahal Hill disagreed with the verdict claiming, “Bro what? Rose pieced her up that whole fight!!” These myriad reactions conveyed the pulsating excitement permeating the sidelines during the fight.
