Manon Fiorot Eager for Erin Blanchfield Showdown in Pursuit of No. 1 Contender Spot

UFC flyweight contender Manon Fiorot has her sight set on the UFC gold and doesn’t mind taking on fellow contender Erin Blanchfield, touting herself as the likely next contender for a title shot after champions Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko, while dismissing Blanchfield’s claim of having a stronger resume.

Manon Fiorot is set on her pursuit of UFC gold, and she’s prepared to take down whoever necessary to achieve her goal. This includes fellow flyweight contender, Erin Blanchfield. Both Fiorot and Blanchfield appear to be the logical choices for a title shot after the rematch between Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko scheduled for Sept. 16. At UFC Paris, Fiorot solidified her championship bid by triumphing over two-time strawweight champion, Rose Namajunas.

After her victorious match, Fiorot communicated her anticipation to face the winner between Grasso or Shevchenko. She affirmed her intention with firm words, “For sure, I want to take this belt… I’ll take the winner.” Her confident demeanor comes from an impressive professional record since her 2018 pro MMA debut. With a minor setback in her debut against Leah McCourt, her only loss so far, Fiorot has stacked a string of eleven consecutive wins, including a 6-0 record in the UFC.

Tying with Blanchfield for the longest streak inside the octagon in the promotion’s flyweight division, Fiorot’s posture remains unshaken even in the face of her potential contender’s comments. Blanchfield has boasted a stronger résumé than Fiorot, but should the UFC book their face off for the No.1 contender’s spot, Fiorot holds she’s ready. “Like I said earlier, for sure, if the UFC wants me to fight, I take the fight… It’s an easy fight for me,” Fiorot said.

Both Fiorot and Blanchfield have accomplishments against former strawweight champions with Fiorot’s convincing win over Namajunas and Blanchfield’s impressive submission of Jessica Andrade. Any one of these flyweight contenders would certainly make a considerable challenger for the Sept. 16 Noche UFC main event champion. While respecting Namajunas, Fiorot suggested that the size difference might have played a part in her success and said, “The flyweights are too strong for her.” The high stakes and competitive flyweight division set an exciting stage for the upcoming Sept. 16 event.
