Martin Buday’s UFC Departure: No Bad Blood, Future Uncertain

Martin Buday, after improving his UFC record to 7-1, was unexpectedly not re-signed by the UFC but chose to take the high road, expressing gratitude for his time there, and subsequently signed with Oktagon MMA where he aims to continue his career.

Martin Buday, with an impressive UFC record of 7-1, surprised many by not being re-signed after defeating grappling champ Marcus Buchecha in his debut. Instead, the UFC decided to part ways with Buday, keeping his opponent on the roster. Strange choice, right? Especially given the state of the heavyweight division. But Buday? He didn’t lash out or criticize.

He chose grace. “No ill will,” Buday shared with MMA Fighting. “I’m thankful for my journey with the UFC. They made me the fighter I am today.” No bitterness, no drama. Just gratitude.

Despite his departure, Buday felt the love from fans and the MMA community. “It was heartwarming,” he said, acknowledging the support from journalists and fighters alike. A 7-1 record isn’t too shabby, after all.

Buday admits he didn’t always deliver the thrilling finishes the UFC craves. Still, for him, winning was paramount. “Wins matter most,” he emphasized. Yet, he understood the entertainment factor the UFC demands.

Offers flooded in post-UFC, but Buday returned to Oktagon MMA, where he once reigned as heavyweight champ. It felt right. “Oktagon treated me well,” he explained. Familiar faces, familiar grounds.

He faces Will Fleury next, aiming to reclaim his heavyweight title at Oktagon 81. Could this lead to a UFC return? Who knows? For now, Buday’s focused on making waves in Oktagon. “We’ll do big things together,” he said, excited for the future.

Who can predict what’s next? Buday’s open to possibilities but is content with his current path. “We’ll see,” he mused. For now, it’s all about the journey with Oktagon MMA.
