Melquizael Costa Ready to Beat Featherweight Champion at UFC Vegas 112

Melquizael Costa, confident after a series of victories, is eager to face tough opponents in both featherweight and lightweight divisions, aiming to prove himself as a formidable fighter in the UFC.

Melquizael Costa feels like he’s entering a new phase in his career. Fresh off a bonus-winning victory at UFC Vegas 112, he’s ready to make his mark.

The Brazilian featherweight has been on a roll, winning his last four fights. Three of those victories came in under 60 days! Now, he’s set to face Morgan Charriere, brimming with confidence.

“I love doing this,” Costa told MMA Fighting. For him, stepping into the octagon is like a stroll in the park. Plus, getting paid for it? It’s like paid sparring, he laughs.

Costa’s 2024 was chaotic. After a rocky 1-2 start in the UFC, a third-round submission of Shayilan Nuerdanbieke turned things around. He’s predicted four fights in 2025 and aims to go 4-0 if he wins at UFC APEX.

“I’m ready to beat the champion,” he declared. Costa believes no one in the division can defeat him, no matter the preparation time. Personal and physical issues held him back, but now he’s ready for anyone.

At 29, Costa isn’t just after big names; he wants the toughest opponents. He’s not interested in declining fighters like Calvin Kattar or Giga Chikadze. Instead, he craves the hype and challenges of new contenders.

Costa relishes the idea of fighting guys like Jean Silva or Lerone Murphy. Even Aaron Pico intrigues him. He prides himself on being the underdog who beats the hyped fighters.

He anticipates a “good brawl” with Charriere, a French featherweight with a knack for earning bonuses. Costa doesn’t particularly like him, especially after Charriere initially denied their fight was in the works.

Looking ahead, Costa wants to stay active in 2026 and is open to a lightweight jump. He’s eager to test himself, seeking wars in both divisions to keep things exciting.

“If the UFC offers a top 10 guy mid-year, great—give me a lightweight fight in the meantime,” Costa said. He wants to explore lightweight territory, eyeing fighters like Matt Frevola and Jesus Aguilar.

“If the phone rings, man, I’m going,” he continued. He’s ready to step in against fighters like Jean Silva, Arnold Allen, or even Volkanovski. Costa’s journey from selling popsicles in Porto de Moz to the UFC fuels his ambition. He’s determined to prove he can beat anyone they throw at him.
