Mikey Musumeci Teases Big Names for UFC BJJ Show, Dillon Danis Feud

Mikey Musumeci is set to compete in the main event of UFC BJJ’s inaugural event and serve as a coach on the related reality show, with previous plans to coach against Gordon Ryan and Craig Jones falling through, while a misunderstanding with Dillon Danis remains unresolved.

Mikey Musumeci is a key figure in the UFC’s new Brazilian jiu-jitsu promotion. As the UFC gears up for its inaugural event, Musumeci almost found himself coaching against two big names in the sport.

Earlier this month, UFC BJJ was announced, with the first event slated for June 25 in Las Vegas. Musumeci will face Rerisson Gabriel in the main event for the bantamweight title. Both are also opposing coaches on the reality show UFC BJJ: Road to the Title, now airing on the UFC’s YouTube channel.

Interestingly, Gabriel wasn’t the initial choice to oppose Musumeci. There were talks of pairing him with Gordon Ryan or Craig Jones.

Musumeci shared, “I was supposed to do it with Gordon Ryan, but he had health issues. Then, Craig Jones was almost finalized, but he signed with Flo Grappling instead.”

“So, it was first Gordon, then Craig. We were close, but it didn’t happen,” he added. Musumeci hopes the show will develop new personalities and storylines, enhancing viewer engagement.

Another potential coach or competitor is Dillon Danis, known for his polarizing presence. His involvement would surely stir up interest.

Musumeci addressed rumors about Danis being upset with him. Apparently, Danis misunderstood comments made at a press conference.

“Yeah, I have nothing against Dillon,” Musumeci clarified. “He thought I said something about him, but it was Claudia [Gadelha]. He even texted me during UFC 316, wanting to confront me.”

Musumeci tried to clear things up, “I told him, ‘I didn’t talk about you.’ Maybe he just wanted drama. If he wanted to do a show with me, it’d be fun.”

When asked if things have improved with Danis, Musumeci isn’t sure. “I’ve been cool,” he said. “I think he’s still upset over something I didn’t do. I sent him the video twice, but no response.”

Despite the drama, Musumeci remains focused on the upcoming event and the potential for exciting matchups in the future.
