Natalia Silva is determined to defeat any UFC opponents, including ex-champion Rose Namajunas, to ultimately secure the flyweight title, viewing each fight as a step towards her championship goal.
Natalia Silva’s on a mission. She’s ready to take on any fighter the UFC throws her way until that flyweight belt is hers.
This Saturday, she faces ex-champ Rose Namajunas at UFC 324 in Vegas. Silva thought she’d be competing for the 125-pound title after defeating Jessica Andrade and Alexa Grasso. But, she had to wait while Zhang Weili chased double gold against Shevchenko.
“When Valentina’s fight ended, I was really expecting that opportunity for a title shot,” Silva told MMA Fighting. But the UFC had other plans. They wanted her active, so when Alexa pulled out, Silva stepped in to face Namajunas.
Silva sees this fight as another step, a chance to sharpen her skills for the title. “I don’t see [the wait] as something frustrating,” she said. Instead, she views it as adding weight to her story, much like Amanda Nunes’ legacy.
“I’m writing a story, and it’s going to be beautiful,” Silva declared. She’s determined to fight and beat former champions, adding layers to her journey.
If she beats Namajunas, Silva’s record will hit 8-0 with wins over three former champs. But Shevchenko’s potential move to bantamweight could delay her title shot again.
“I can’t say anything for sure,” Silva admitted. She’s not in charge; she’s just an employee of the promotion. But she’s ready to fight whoever she needs to, with her eyes set firmly on the championship.
“Nothing can stop a purpose,” Silva said. She’s prepared to face any challenge, including the formidable Rose. Her goal? To be champion, no matter the hurdles.
