Nate Diaz wants a third fight with Conor McGregor, nearly a decade after their initial bouts, while also considering other potential matchups in MMA and boxing.
Nate Diaz is itching for another showdown with Conor McGregor.
Diaz, a fan favorite in the UFC, skyrocketed to fame after his unexpected victory over McGregor at UFC 196 in 2016. That win birthed his legendary line, “I’m not surprised, motherf*ckers.” Just five months later, McGregor edged out a win in their rematch. Ever since, fans have been buzzing about a trilogy fight. Now, almost a decade later, Diaz is eager to make it happen.
“If I could fight anybody right now, it’d be Conor McGregor,” Diaz declared on Out Cold. “Honestly, who else is there? I’d love to see him come back and wow everyone. Not that he has to, but it’d be awesome. Everyone’s hating on him. I wanna beat someone who’s on top, and he’s got what it takes.”
McGregor hasn’t stepped into the octagon since his TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. He was slated to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 but pulled out before the match.
Diaz hasn’t fought in MMA since 2022 when he submitted Tony Ferguson at UFC 279. Since then, he’s ventured into boxing, losing to Jake Paul in 2023 and securing a majority decision win over Jorge Masvidal last year. If the McGregor fight doesn’t pan out, Diaz has other options.
“That little Ilia Topuria, he’s making waves,” Diaz noted. “He’s a bit small for me, but those are probably the best fights.”
“And on the boxing front, Canelo or Crawford. I’m not demanding anything, but when I take someone down, I’m coming for those guys too. With all due respect. That’s my plan.”
