No Charges for Nate Diaz Following New Orleans Street Brawl

Former UFC fighter Nate Diaz is no longer facing charges over a street fight in New Orleans, as the district attorney decided to drop the case after reviewing the evidence.

The former UFC fighter, Nate Diaz, can finally relax knowing he is no longer facing charges related to a street fight he was engaged in this past April. This fight took place in New Orleans, in which Diaz choked out Rodney Peterson, a Logan Paul lookalike. The unique incident quickly spread across the Internet, with surveillance video going viral. This led to the police in New Orleans to issue an arrest warrant for Diaz, charging him with second-degree battery.

Zach Rosenfield, Diaz’s representative, recently announced that the district attorney has chosen to drop the case after taking a close look at the evidence. District Attorney Communications Manager, Brandon D. Myers, has not been available for comment regarding the situation. Rosenfield relayed a statement which reads, “Today, the Orleans Parish District Attorney informed us they will not be pursuing a case against Nate Diaz. Since Rodney Peterson sought out to fight Nate on Bourbon Street, we have maintained Nate’s actions were 100% in self defense. It was clear on video, clear in pictures and clear from the multiple other videos Rodney posted before and after. Nate has a right to defend himself against those who want to make a name for themselves and did so. We appreciate the Orleans Parish District Attorney taking the time to review all aspects of this case and their decision to not proceed with it.”

Since the public disclosure of the incident on April 22, Diaz’s team has continuously stated that his actions were purely self-defence. Reports initially disclosed that the police on Bourbon Street broke up a large fight outside of a bar that involved both Diaz and Peterson. Diaz was in New Orleans to support teammate Chris Avila at the Misfits Boxing 6 event. Notably, the investigation did not impact Diaz’s boxing plans. Diaz went on to fight Jake Paul, Logan’s brother, which occurred on Aug. 5. Jake emerged as the victor, decisively defeating Diaz via a 10-round unanimous decision.
