Norma Dumont Transitions to Bantamweight to Fight Yana Santos in UFC’s Opening Card

Norma Dumont, having expressed the desire to compete at bantamweight, will face Yana Santos in an unconfirmed UFC Vegas event; Dumont previously moved to featherweight after a weight issue in 2021, while Santos looks to bounce back after three consecutive losses.

Norma Dumont is set to compete again at bantamweight as she prepares for her meet with Yana Santos. This is slated to be UFC’s inaugural event of 2024, occurring on January 13th. Details of this match have been confirmed by several sources. Though this eagerly anticipated showdown is causing a stir among UFC followers, the headlining attraction for the UFC Vegas event is yet to be announced.

Dumont, who currently holds a fight record of 10-2, has achieved three consecutive wins at featherweight. These victories are against notable fighters such as Chelsea Chandler, Karol Rosa, and Danyelle Wolf. Despite her winning streak in the featherweight category, she has stated her aim to move down to 135 pounds, provided that UFC does not offer her an opportunity to compete for the vacant 145-pound title.

In her previous attempt to participate in a 135-pound match in April 2021, Dumont weighed in at 139.5 pounds, exceeding the weight limit. As a result, her match with Erin Blanchfield was subsequently cancelled. This prompted Dumont’s decision to transition to the featherweight category full-time, a move that led to her winning five of six matches. Santos, on the other hand, is struggling to regain her former momentum after three losses in a row against Irene Aldana, Holly Holm, and Karol Rosa. However, her future looks promising as she has previously proven herself as a formidable contender, being a former Invicta FC bantamweight champion and one-time UFC title challenger with a record of 4-4 under the UFC banner.
