Paddy Pimblett believes Jon Jones would likely defeat Tom Aspinall in a UFC heavyweight championship bout, but wouldn’t be surprised if Aspinall managed to stop Jones, despite no current plans for the fight.
Paddy Pimblett leans toward Jon Jones in a potential UFC heavyweight championship unification bout against Tom Aspinall. Yet, if Aspinall were to stop Jones, he wouldn’t be shocked.
“I love Aspinall, me lad. He’s my mate and all, but I can’t pick against Jon Jones,” Pimblett shared at a UFC Fan Q&A in Liverpool. “If anyone’s gonna beat him, it’s Aspinall.”
Aspinall might just knock Jones out cold. But, Pimblett’s never bet against Jones.
Despite Dana White’s assurances of a Jones vs. Aspinall fight, nothing’s set. Fans seem skeptical, hoping Aspinall competes as the undisputed champ to stay active.
Aspinall, the longest-reigning interim champ, hasn’t fought since his quick victory over Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304. Jones, meanwhile, won the heavyweight title at UFC 285 and has only fought once since, against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309.
“The Baddy” himself is climbing the ranks in the lightweight division. Pimblett recently secured his seventh UFC win at UFC 314, defeating Michael Chandler in a thrilling co-main event.
Pimblett’s success is fueled by his evolving skills and deep understanding of the sport. He’s been a Jon Jones fan since childhood, following his career since 2009.
“I’ve watched Jon Jones since he became champ,” Pimblett recalls. He vividly remembers the infamous disqualification for 12-to-6 elbows. That’s how long he’s been a fan.
Jones’ strategic game planning sets him apart. “He finds a way to beat someone,” Pimblett notes. If anyone’s going to dethrone him, it’s Aspinall.
