Stipe Miocic is disappointed about the cancellation of his fight against Jon Jones due to Jones’ pectoral injury, but he is understanding of the situation and hopes to fight him next year.
Stipe Miocic was left disappointed after the news broke that his highly anticipated fight against Jon Jones had been canceled. The clash, which was meant to take place at UFC 295 on November 11, was being hailed as the ultimate battle between the Greatest of All Time and the Greatest Heavyweight of All Time. However, Jones suffered a pectoral injury, forcing him to withdraw from the event. Miocic expressed his frustration in a video posted on his Only Fans account, where he revealed the sequence of events that led to the fight being called off.
Miocic described his initial reaction upon waking up to the news, saying, “How did I feel when I woke up today? Like I got kicked in the nuts.” He remembered being awakened by his phone vibrating and finding a text message from his manager, informing him that the fight had been canceled. Unable to sleep for the rest of the night, Miocic acknowledged his excitement for the showdown with Jones, but also displayed empathy for his opponent, hoping that he would recover soon. Nevertheless, the cancellation left Miocic questioning his next move and contemplating whether he should fight someone else.
Unfortunately for Miocic, the UFC made the decision to replace both him and Jones on the UFC 295 card. Instead, a new interim title fight was scheduled between Sergei Pavlovich and Tom Aspinall. This left Miocic without an immediate opportunity to compete, as UFC CEO Dana White confirmed that the plan was to reschedule the fight with Jones for the following year. Miocic accepted this decision, understanding the direction the UFC wanted to take. Despite the disappointment of the canceled fight, Miocic remained focused on his ultimate goal of reclaiming the championship belt, stating, “I want that belt back. It’s my belt. It’s going to happen.”
Jones, on the other hand, announced that he would be undergoing surgery to repair his torn pectoral muscle. He anticipates a recovery period of several months, further delaying the prospect of his showdown with Miocic. With the news of the surgery, Miocic’s hopes for a rematch with Jones were pushed even further into the future, intensifying his determination to regain the belt and prove himself as the best in the division.
