Sydney Sweeney has transformed into boxer Christy Martin for an upcoming biopic, showcasing her physical transformation and dedication to portraying the legendary boxing champion who survived an attempted murder by her husband.
Sydney Sweeney is almost unrecognizable in her latest photos. She’s transformed into boxer Christy Martin for a new biopic role.
The Euphoria star shared first-look snaps from the set, flexing muscles and flaunting her new hair. She’s stepping into the shoes of the legendary women’s boxer.
“Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training,” Sweeney wrote on Instagram. “Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope.”
Sweeney plays Martin, a former boxing champ who fought from 1989 to 2012. Inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2020, Martin made history as one of the first women on the ballot.
Christy’s life wasn’t just about victories in the ring. She survived an attempted murder by her husband, James Martin, who stabbed and shot her.
James was later convicted of attempted second-degree murder. He received a 25-year prison sentence.
The untitled biopic is directed by David Michod. Ben Foster stars as James Martin, with a cast including Merritt Weaver and Katy O’Brien.
Filming kicked off in North Carolina. The release date? Still TBD.
Sweeney’s no stranger to combat sports—she started MMA at 14! Before Hollywood called, she competed in grappling competitions.
While known for TV hits like Euphoria and The White Lotus, she’s also appeared in films like Anyone But You. A true chameleon!
