Terence Crawford Criticizes Jermell Charlo Following Overwhelming Loss to Canelo, Urges Shame

After suffering a loss to Canelo Alvarez, Jermell Charlo called out Terence Crawford for a fight, but Crawford, unimpressed by Charlo’s performance, responded aggressively on social media.

Terence Crawford expressed his disappointment with Jermell Charlo’s performance against Canelo Alvarez in their recent match at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Charlo, known as the undisputed light middleweight world champion, suffered a significant loss to Alvarez, with scores of 119-108, 118-109, and 118-109 recorded. Descriptions of the match noted that Charlo’s effort was listless and the decision to compete two weight divisions above his own was a lofty ambition but ultimately reckoned as unsuccessful. It was clear that Alvarez dominated the 12-round bout, with Charlo unable to get the upper hand at any point.

Despite his defeat, Charlo challenged Crawford, the current undisputed welterweight champ and recognized as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in boxing. In a post-fight comment, Charlo confidently proclaimed he was willing to fight anyone, specifically mentioning Crawford: “I’m down to fight whoever, you know? Hey, I want to fight Terence Crawford. F*** that. I could fight Terence Crawford at my weight division. Yeah, yeah, I know he’s somewhere around this joint. Tell Terence. Yeah, yeah, I’ll fight Terence Crawford.”

Charlo’s callout did not go unnoticed by Crawford who promptly responded on Twitter. He tweeted: “[Charlo] you went out sad. Didn’t even try to win, all you did was try to survive. You should be ashamed of yourself.” Crawford didn’t stop there, he continued by saying, “Ok y’all I’m over [Charlo] he’s no longer on my hit list. He went out there and laid down and let Canelo spank him like he was his daddy with no type of resistance.” Lastly, he congratulated Canelo, remarking, “Congratulations Canelo you made the so-called lion look like a baby cub.” This clearly indicates Crawford’s low interpretation of Charlo’s performance in the fight and sets the stage for further confrontation between the two.
