Tony Ferguson Shares Brock Lesnar’s Advice During UFC Struggles

Tony Ferguson, after a successful UFC career and a challenging losing streak, found renewed purpose in boxing, inspired by advice from Brock Lesnar, and is now pursuing his new passion with determination, refusing to retire from combat sports.

Tony Ferguson was once a top lightweight in the UFC. His 12-fight winning streak seemed destined to lead to a showdown with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

But life had other plans. Injuries, bad timing, and a global pandemic derailed that dream. Instead, Ferguson faced Justin Gaethje in 2020, losing in an interim title fight.

That loss marked a downturn. Eight consecutive defeats followed, ending his UFC run. Retirement whispers grew louder.

Yet Ferguson wasn’t ready to hang up his gloves. Despite advice from many, including Brock Lesnar, he resisted retirement. Lesnar, his coach on The Ultimate Fighter, offered wise counsel.

“I talked to coach Brock,” Ferguson shared. Lesnar’s advice? Save money, pay taxes, and consider retiring. Tough words to hear, especially from someone he respected.

Ferguson found it hard to ignore Lesnar’s advice. But he questioned why he should listen to outsiders. “You’re not in my shoes,” he argued. Critics didn’t endure his grueling training.

Despite the noise, Ferguson found clarity. Lesnar suggested finding a new passion. “What do guys like us do when we retire?” Ferguson asked. Lesnar’s reply? Pursue a second passion with the same intensity.

Boxing became that new passion. Ferguson signed with Misfits Boxing, winning his debut with a knockout. It was his first victory since 2019.

“I love this sport,” Ferguson said about boxing. The win reignited his fighting spirit. He felt alive again.

Lesnar’s retirement advice came from care, not doubt. Ferguson understood. Coaches don’t want to see their athletes hurt.

Now, Ferguson feels rejuvenated. He’s diving into boxing with full force. A new chapter begins.

He’s not closing doors on MMA or grappling, though. Ferguson’s open to opportunities, embracing this fresh stage in his career.

“This is that new chapter,” he said. Letting go of the past, he’s rediscovered a part of himself he missed.

As for retiring? Forget it. “I’m never retiring,” Ferguson declared. He’s here to stay.
