Sean Strickland was crowned the new UFC middleweight champion at UFC 293, in addition to snagging a $50,000 performance bonus, marking his third such bonus with the UFC.
Following the thrilling events at UFC 293, new UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland not only celebrated his victory with his shiny new belt, but was also awarded a coveted $50,000 performance bonus. The champion left viewers and fans in awe, winning a unanimous decision over previous title holder Israel Adesanya. The victory earned him a unanimous score of 49-46. Dana White, the President of UFC, announced that Strickland had also secured one of the two disclosed performance bonuses, marking his third such bonus in his UFC career.
UFC 293 was held Sunday morning at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney and was broadcasted live on ESPN+ pay-per-view. Alongside Strickland’s notable win, other thrilling matches and bonus awards were the highlight of the event. Keeping with the tradition, three more bonuses were awarded during the event, including a “Fight of the Night” bonus for one of the most exciting bouts.
Of the other winners, Heavyweight Justin Tafa received an additional $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for his knockout win over Austen Lane in the main event card. This turned out to be his second UFC performance bonus. Furthermore, the flyweight main card bout between Manel Kape and short-notice replacement Felipe dos Santos delivered a high adrenaline rush. Dana presented both fighters an additional $50,000 for their outstanding efforts in the intense three-round bout.
